Android beyond phones and Apps

eetimes.gifDespite Android impetus to no. 1 in recent sales (USA), I think the most interesting development projects (and those with most opportunities) in future will be those that will interface with the hardware, robust run on devices or appear as consumer devices other than mobile phones.

There's a great article to EETimes about how Google is already reach out beyond the mobile phone.

"Android set-tops, VoIP phones, televisions, Karaoke boxes and digital frames are coming soon to a dealer near you."

An open Embedded Software Foundation (OESF) was established to create a platform based on Android feasible for a variety of integrated products group, composed of 25 companies, including ARM, KDDI, Japan Cable Laboratories, Alpine Electronics and Fujitsu Software Technologies, will launch several working groups, including: set top box; VoIP; network and security; measurement and control; system core; application and services; and marketing education.

We can find that the current fashion for mobile consumer applications becomes a small part of some ecosystem of software Smartphone OS future.
